Jeddah ( Red Sea ) to Dammam (Gulf):

the new railway line;

Jeddah/Makkah region together with Riyadh and Dammam account
for around two-third
of Saudi Arabia 's population.

Jubail : Saudi Arabia 's main industrial city;

Landbridge will offer significant time
savings compared to shipping by sea around the
Arabian peninsula (5 to 7 days) - so important for high value goods.

Reduced transit times will allow shipping companies to
realize cost & service gains. |

Over
1,000 km of new railway:
|
 |
950 km of new line between Riyadh and Jeddah; |
 |
115 km of new line between Dammam and Jubail; |
 |
Existing Dammam - Riyadh (about 450 km) line will be
upgraded;

 |
Line will be single track with long sidings. However,
embankment, bridges & tunnels
will be designed for double track to cater for additional traffic growth in
future. |

Freight
and high speed passenger service:

 |
Landbridge will be primarily a freight line (Container &
General Freight). |

Domestic container traffic makes up the bulk of SL traffic; |
 |
Passenger concession will be separate from freight
concession. |

Land,
Regulatory and Other matters:
|
 |
Land for new railway will be acquired by Government and will
be made available to concessionaire; |
 |
Concession Agreement will be principal regulatory
instrument; |
 |
Concession company will be incorporated under Saudi law; |
 |
SRO operational assets and staff will be transferred to
concessionaire on a selective basis. |
